What say you?A South African inventor, Ms. Sonette Ehlers, has created a device to snare rapists. South Africa has the world's worst sexual assault record and the former medical technician contends that the rape problem is so severe that women cannot wait for male attitudes to improve.
The 'rape trap', trademarked 'Rapex', is a condom-like device bristling with internal hooks and is concealed inside a woman's body. It hooks onto a rapist during penetration and must be surgically removed. The inventor claims that "the rape trap would be so painful for a rapist that it would disable him immediately, enabling his victim to escape; but would cause no long-term physical damage and could not injure the woman".
The device has caused considerable controversy in South Africa and some say that Ms. Sonette Ehlers deserves a medal, while others say that she needs help.

man, i must tell me sister 'bout it. she has long waited for sth like this. she abhors rapists. otherwise a peaceful person, my sister talks of violent ways of punishing rapists. every other day when we hear of a little girl raped and brutally killed, how r v supposed to remain peaceful or at rest??
will read the full aritcle. want to know how the device works. perhaps it wont work in our country where little girls are raped, who cant even escape.
That's very funny but hopefully of good help to victimised or prospective rape-victims. But having little knowledge of female sexuality (*blush*) I am not sure if many women would like to adopt it. May be there's some *safemode* version or some thing with the *device* that allows potentially harmless and desired persons to perform their acts. But it sure is hilarious. But as with all scientific or such inventions, the researcher or lab or scientist usually demonstrate their invention/product, so anything of the kind did happen too? Just asking out of curiosity, you know :$
lol... i think this device is really cool, they should sell this all over the world.
i would have to agree with ejaz to a large extent - although i wouldnt blush as much as he managed to. ;)
its also too early to claim that its great or not worth the effort. i guess tests and further research would only make this product work better.
tis' about time someone made the effort to sit and 'invent'/create something of this sort. - on a side note: our govt. shall also look into trying to get this 'device' to our country before our rape stats get out of hand.
1) There has got to be better ways to counter rape. I dont think it's very practical (not to mention the damage it would cause to the consumer's mental health) to expect getting raped every day and "install" this device before leaving home on a daily basis.
2) There could be an abuse of this device by bittered wives or girlfriends trying to seek revenge
3) Why can't women simply stab or shoot the assailent?? wouldn't it be a lot easier?
Rapex can become a frighteningly terrifying weapon in the hands(?) of a woman scorned ...
If the device really becomes popular, we will soon be seeing sex shops selling Rapex Detectors.
BTW, I find it strange that a society that demands an eye for an eye - and an execution (the name for legal murder) for a murder - hasn't legislated to rape the rapist.
