The task ahead was impossible. Unilever asked b.i.t.s. to help bring to life a new e-Human Resource concept.
This concept originated from Peter Drucker's statement that 'Life is an Enrolment Game', Me and U aims to drastically change the way Unilever sees and treats its employees. It aims to connect to people in a different way by no longer treating employees as merely having contractual arrangements with a company but as members of a community.
To symbolise the concept of community, we named the project 'Me and U'. Its objective is to increase involvement with and to facilitate members to maximise their ‘membership’ of Unilever Pakistan. This is realised by keeping them up to date with the news surrounding Unilever Pakistan, by providing tools so members can take their development into their own hands and by letting members manage their rewards directly. The delivery is through a web portal that brings these choices online in a highly personalised manner whilst also including community building elements through which members can interact online.
As mentioned before the challenge was impossible. b.i.t.s. was asked to work together with a team from Unilever to develop Me and U in 8 weeks from scratch. The launch was a stunning success and on July 1, 2003, a total of 600 pages of information and 20 transactional HR / Service e-processes have been brought online.
Since its inception, members have come back to Me & U over 30,000 times. With 800 people online, this translates into all members accessing Me and U, 2.5 times per week!! Furthermore, the verbal feedback on Me & U has been extremely positive, transforming the image of HR within the company.
This success was impossible without the fantastic support of Sabeen Mahmud, Zubair Ahmed and the rest of the b.i.t.s. team. Their ownership and dedication was unrivalled. Their ability to integrate unique, user friendly designs and to back that up with reliable, robust back-end operations, combined with their unwavering commitment to exceed the expectations of their customers has been of a level not seen before in Pakistan.

It
was always reassuring working with BITS that professionalism

I worked on a couple of projects with b.i.t.s. and every time they have outdone not only everyone in the market but also outdone themselves. A brilliant group of young professionals with a dynamic and aggressive style of working and coming up with new ideas all the time. Always a pleasure to work with them.

...
the TPM Kick-Off Ceremony went very well and the
presentation developed by the BITS Team was a thumping
success-:) I would
like to take this opportunity to thank you and
your entire team for such an outstanding job.
It was a wonderful team effort.
Also, I would like to specially
mention Faisal Saidi's efforts in giving the presentation
its extra beauty during the final editing after
his arrival in Rahimyar Khan. After sharing the
presentation that he brought with him from Karachi
with Saeed and Qaysar, we were told to cut it
down from 42 minutes to 25 minutes maximum. It
looked like an impossible task but the way Faisal
worked with me till 5 in the morning for 2 days
continuously, was just outstanding. He has demonstrated
extremely good qualities of dedicated professionalism
and excellent customer service, which to me was
highly impressive. He was very ably supported
by Abdul Rehman Bham, who kept on incorporating
the last minute changes in graphics etc. Personally,
I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and
must say that you are very lucky to have customer-oriented
'team players' like Faisal and Bham on your team-:)

I
am thoroughly impressed by the professionalism and
enthusiasm the b.i.t.s. team have shown right from
the beginning since we started working on this huge
enterprise wide information system for Informatics.
After the system requirement phase was over, developing
and combining different modules for each of the
departments within our organization seemed like
an impossible task, but the b.i.t.s. team showed
tremendous effort and professionalism in developing
the whole system exactly according to our requirements
and even better - by meeting our very challenging
deadlines. I am greatly impressed by the avid and
energetic team b.i.t.s. have and specially by the
individualized support they provide, which always
makes me believe as if we are their most important
clients. b.i.t.s.
is really how all the software houses should be
like - by not providing 'only systems' but by
providing 'complete system solutions' and total
customer satisfaction. I wish b.i.t.s. and its
team all the best and I look forward to working
with them again!

Working with
b.i.t.s. for our Interactive Kiosk was a real
pleasure. We found their team to be intelligent,
creative and above all great to work with. They
managed to deliver a high quality product within
budget and on time. It is one thing to find a
consultant that can understand your needs, it
is entirely another to find one that delivers
above expectations. The team at b.i.t.s. have
done just that and we look forward to working
with them time and again.
Wishing them success!

b.i.t.s. is an extraordinary
firm, distinguished most by their imaginative graphics
and designs. In an era when websites are looking
ever more alike, their work stands out for its uniqueness
and wonderful blend of classy Pakistani aesthetics
with contemporary navigation. Some of this probably
comes from their close relationship with the contemporary
art scene and artists in Pakistan. Their executives
are a pleasure to work with, and bring a wide variety
of experience and understanding to the firm's work.
B.I.T.S. is a third world jewel, and beacon for
understanding how the worldwide IT revolution will
empower skilled people everywhere to take control
of new media forms. Omar

Just a short note to
thank you and your team for the great work you have
done on our Chairman's Review and on our Values
Launch. This is the first time that actual film
clips have been used for such a presentation in
Pakistan, I believe, and your designers and professionals
did a great job in understanding and putting together
the message we wanted to get over. I am still receiving
congratulations on the launch which all who attended
were very excited about. Please convey my thanks
to everyone who worked on these projects.

At TRC we are all delighted
with the work that b.i.t.s. has done for us. We
had been contemplating a website for the longest
time and were unable to identify an organisation
that would meet our needs... and then along came
b.i.t.s.! The norm
for voluntary services has been that people fit
the work into their own set of priorities and
deadlines and then graditude on the part of the
recipient forces them to accept whatever they
get... b.i.t.s. was surprisingly different. Despite
their own chaotic work schedules, they were very
professional about time schedules and sticking
to deadlines and were always responsive to our
needs. The level of commitment we witnessed is
indeed commendable.
Their knowledge of the
craft and the technical aspects of web development
was always reassuring. They shared their insights
and helped us focus and think about 'our' needs
and our users needs; they helped us clarify our
thinking about what should go into the website
to start with and showed us the possibilities
for later development... how we could improve
our services and relationship with our members
and increase our outreach. This however, was always
balanced by cautioning us about the implications
of human and financial resources in getting carried
away and having something too fancy.
Being on the same wave length
where aesthetics is concerned made a real difference.
Most web developers know programming but the sense
of aesthetics often leaves much to be desired.
We were afraid because we were getting free services
we would not be able to be too demanding (which
we usually are), but this was not the case. Each
section was done, approved, adjusted whenever
required, bit by bit. THANK YOU b.i.t.s. :-)

I just love the site
to bits (pun intended). It is a terrific effort
by you and your team. The design, simplicity and
navigation are all right up there with the best.
I spoke to Zakir Mahmood to point TiE Silicon Valley
in its direction - I am sure they can benefit by
replicating the concept. Thank
you very much and really appreciate so much work
on a volunteer basis when you are as busy as you
are.
